More than 1500 people volunteered to help us make and sell iconic strawberry sundaes at Ekka 2009. We'll be looking for 2010 volunteers from June.
We can accommodate group bookings for clubs, schools and businesses if you register early. Volunteering There are plenty of ways to lend a hand for the Strawberry Sundae stalls at the EkkA. Tasks include: chopping strawberries serving customers making icecreams cash collection clean up and set up supervising stalls facilitating ('runner') Think we've missed something? Give us a ring and have a chat. Volunteering for the EkkA Strawberry Sundae stalls is a great corporate exercise and a fantastic way to meet new people while supporting life changing medical research. About the EkkA The Nestle-Peters Strawberry Sundae is exclusive to the EkkA and is one of the all-time favourites of the EkkA for young and old alike. The sundae consists of a cone with fresh strawberries and two ice-cream layers, which is topped with delicious fresh cream and extra strawberries. The strawberries are supplied by Queensland’s strawberry growers. Since 1990, the Foundation has operated at least one stall each year at the EkkA. Supported by Nestle-Peters, Coca Cola and the RNA, in 2008 the Foundation’s dedicated volunteers cut up more than 4200 kilos of strawberries, sold more than 160,000 sundaes at four stalls and raised more than $50,000 for medical research. We want to thank our supervisors, our volunteers, our board members, our suppliers and our staff for their hard work which makes this 10-day extravaganza such a success. We appreciate the commitment offered by the private sector including Suncorp-Metway, Bendigo Bank, McInnes Wilson, Aspley Lions, Westpac Bank, ANZ Bank, Bank of Queensland, Bennett & Philip Solicitors, TabSportsbet and Citistreet. Thank you to volunteers from community groups and local clubs who did us proud by their support. They include Probus Bridgeman Downs, Probus Chermside, Albany Creek Venturer Scouts, Albany Creek Rovers, 16 Aviation Brigade, Bramble Bay Lions, Rotary Clubs of Kippa-Ring, Lioness Club of Morayfield, Camphill-Carindale Lions Club Inc, Bunya Lions Club and Pine Rivers Lions Club. A big thank you to the hospital’s own Charlie’s Angels; our hospital staff, many of whom take leave to help at the EkkA; volunteers who support the Foundation week in and week out; individuals who are volunteered by their family and friends, and so many more that come on board to provide the workforce so that we can raise essential funds for medical research. Once again our dedicated volunteer team did us proud. Thank you.
