Additional information to assist in submission of grant applications

The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation is committed to making the process of applying for 2010 Research Grants as simple as possible.  The following information is provided in response to queries that have been raised since 20 November 2009.  Please also refer to Advice to Applicants.

Evidence of Ethics Approval

Evidence of Ethics approval is not required at the time of submission of any research grant applications, however if the application is successful no research grant funds will be available until proof of Ethics approval is provided.

FAQ

1. Can a researcher apply for more than one Small Equipment Grant?

Yes, there is no limit to the number applications that can be submitted.

2. Can a Researcher apply for a New Researcher Grant and a Small Equipment Grant in the same funding round?

Yes, as long as they meet the criteria for a New Researcher Grant.

3. Further clarification of the definition of ‘new researcher’ from the Advice to Applicants for New Researcher Grant Program is required.

• If you have been named as chief investigator on a successful research grant application in the past to any funding body you are not eligible to apply for a new researcher grant. 
• If you have been named as a chief investigator on research grant applications in the past and none of them have been successful, you are eligible to apply.
• If you have been named as a co-investigator (successful or otherwise), you may apply under this grant category. 

The Foundation trusts that when the applicant signs the application form that they are signing in good faith that they have met this criteria.

4. Clarification regarding the criterion around the location of research and the employment status of the researcher.

Evidence of achieving well in this assessment criterion is demonstrated by:

An application will score more highly in this assessment criterion when it demonstrates the above two points, i.e. if the research is taking place on site at TPCH, and if the applicant is employed at TPCH.

5. New Researchers requested further information about the standing and criteria for a person to be a Mentor.

The mentor should be a senior researcher who has significant research experience and who has published in the relevant research field.  The profile of the mentor does not affect the outcome of the application providing the mentor has the required research experience and the willingness to assist the New Researcher.  A higher profile mentor will not affect the outcome of the application.

6. What is the solution if I am having difficulty opening PDF Documents on Foundation Website?

Your settings may need to be changed in Adobe Acrobat Reader. 
Change your settings as follows:  Within Adobe Acrobat Reader - Go to Edit=> Preferences => Internet => UNTICK the box Display PDF in browser => OK.
Hopefully this will solve the problem.
